Finland says Hungarian PM has "betrayed" EU and is weponising Ukraine in election campaign
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has "betrayed" the European Union by backing away from a prior agreement on granting Ukraine a €90 billion EU loan and is using the situation around Ukraine in his election campaign, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has said.
As reported by European Pravda's correspondent in Brussels, the Finnish prime minister believes Orbán's blocking of the Ukrainian loan is a betrayal of other EU leaders.
"We had a deal, and I think that he betrayed us. And we need to find a solution on how to go forward," he said, commenting on Hungary's blocking of the €90 billion EU loan for Ukraine.
"He's using Ukraine as a weapon in his election campaign. And it's not good," Orpo added.
Orpo urged Ukraine and the European Commission to find a solution regarding the Druzhba pipeline.
"And the most important issue is how we take care of the financing and funding of Ukraine," he stressed.
As previously reported by European Pravda, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on the sidelines of a European Council meeting in Brussels that Hungary would not unblock any decisions favourable to Ukraine until the Druzhba pipeline resumes transporting Russian oil.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has promised in a letter to EU leaders that oil flows via the Druzhba oil pipeline will resume in about a month and a half.
On 18 March, a group of EU experts wanted to visit the site where the Druzhba oil pipeline was struck in Ukraine in order to assess the damage and the extent of the work needed to restore its operation.
However, so far Ukraine has not allowed European experts access to Druzhba because of security issues.
