Media: Russia expands intelligence support to Iran in its confrontation with US and Israel
Russia has expanded intelligence-sharing and military cooperation with Iran to keep it in the fight against the US-Israeli operation.
The Wall Street Journal anonymous sources, including a senior official from a European intelligence service, told the WSJ that Moscow has increased intelligence exchanges and other forms of military cooperation with Tehran to support Iran in its confrontation with the United States and Israel.
This reportedly includes upgrades to Shahed drones developed by Russia during the years of using them against Ukraine, improving their control and targeting capabilities. Russia is also said to be providing advice on how many drones to launch in a single wave and at what altitudes.
The WSJ also learnt that Moscow has been providing Iran with data on the locations of US facilities in the Middle East and those of Washington's close allies in the region.
The cooperation is said to have deepened from the very first days of the US operation. Two sources said Russia has recently been directly providing Iran with satellite imagery.
These forms of support are described as similar in nature to the assistance Western allies have provided Ukraine in recent years.
It is believed that Russian support helped Iran strike US military radars and other facilities in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.
US President Donald Trump previously declined to answer journalists' questions about possible Russian assistance to Iran, calling the queries "stupid".
Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has said he received assurances from Moscow that Russia is not sharing intelligence with Iran.
