Occupation authorities erase Ukrainian murals and monuments in Mariupol, replace them with Russian propaganda
As noted, the occupiers have completely erased Ukrainian cultural symbols, trying to impose their own propaganda narrative on the city.
The city is now filled with murals of Russian tricolors, propaganda of "friendship with the cities of the Russian Federation" and "heroes of the Special Military Operation," Peter I and Ekaterina II.
Osychenko also added that Mariupol has always angered the Kremlin because, before the full-scale invasion, it was called a showcase city of the restored Ukrainian Donbas. After all, the city was developing intensively.
Such actions, the representatives of the city council emphasize, are part of a systemic campaign to eradicate Ukrainian identity in Mariupol and impose a distorted pro-Russian version of history.
For reference:In Mariupol, Donetsk region, the occupation administration renamed a park in the historical part of the city, which was laid out by the townspeople themselves in the 19th century, in honor of the Russian Empress Ekaterina II.
Russian aggression caused one of the largest humanitarian disasters in Mariupol.
The city is almost 90% destroyed as a result of enemy shelling, and there is still no regular supply of electricity, water, or gas. In addition, the invaders are demolishing the buildings they damaged to hide the traces of their crimes.
Reports indicate that Russian occupation forces filled in two-thirds of the Kalmius River bed in Mariupol to construct a ferry, critically disrupting the ecosystems of Pryazovia and the Sea of Azov.
