How Lukashenko Falsified History

How Lukashenko Falsified History23.07.2025, 9:08 8,970 The initiative of the former chairman of the Shklou state farm has angered many people since July 3.When in December 1996 Alexander Lukashenko moved the celebration of Independence Day from July 27 to July 3 by his decree, this initiative was met in different ways.Lukashenko's opponents were certainly angered by this step, but hardly surprised. After all, he never hid his sympathies for the Soviet past.A convincing example of this was the "referendum" of 1995, which illegally changed the state symbols to non-Soviet ones and put the national language of Belarusians on the brink of survival.Fair remarks that Minsk was liberated on July 3, but not the whole Belarus, that our country never became independent neither in the summer of 1944, nor after May 1945, were the domain of historians and independent press. There were also those, first of all Minsk residents, who were not happy with the transfer of the City Day from July to September by the former chairman of the Shklou state farm. And few people then fully understood what exactly happened, what meaning was put into this illogical change of dates. It was obvious even three decades ago that Lukashenko, who resented the attempts of his mythical enemies to "rewrite history" the loudest of all, was doing exactly that. But the ultimate goal becomes obvious in our days, when he finally stopped being shy to call himself the heir to the victory in the war, which thundered a dozen years before his birth. And not just an heir, but a successor.Lukashenko has been rewriting history to suit himself, molding this image for years. And to this piggy bank, perhaps, we can add the renaming of the main highways of the capital twenty years ago. It's nice to drive along Pobediteley Avenue every day, isn't it?We can also remember Hall No. 10 in the new Museum of the Great Patriotic War built on the same avenue. It is called "Heirs of Victory". And among the exhibits for the second decade on the wall there is a photo of Lukashenko in a military uniform taking a parade. But this self-proclaimed title gives him not only the right to take military parades in a fake military uniform. After the events of 2020, with the close involvement of the Prosecutor General's Office, this image has another important option: if you are the heir of victory over fascism, your opponents are the heirs of those very fascists. And the current "celebration" has one single goal: to once again confirm the claim to hold on to power - by the "right of heritage" to the Victory, enshrined in the country's recent history rewritten to suit itself.Kirill Ivanov, "Salidarnasts"PATREONSupport the website Write your comment 2 You can support the website Charter97.orgMULTI-CURRENCY ACCOUNT FOR ASSISTANCE:Bank's name: Bank Millennium S.A.Address: ul.
