Similar to Fukushima: Enerhoatom Described Potential Consequences of Prolonged Power Outages at ZNPP

Invaders have detained around one hundred ZNPP workers. Their further fate is yet unknown. Prolonged power outages at Zaporizhzhia NPP, illegally seized by the Russian troops, may potentially result in consequences similar to Fukushima incident, as Petro Kotin, the President of Enerhoatom, said in his interview for ZDF channel, DW reports. According to him, the nuclear incident hazard at ZNPP is high as ever, and the situation continues to escalate. According, to him there were at least three “near-misses” at the plant. Kotin explained this by the fact that the ZNPP depends on the power supply. During the shutdown of the cooling system, the melting of the reactor fuel rods begins. Kotin compared it to the nuclear disaster at the Japanese nuclear power plant "Fukushima", where the power supply system was destroyed by a tsunami, and within three hours the melting of the rods began.
