WSL round-up: Alessia Russo scores late equaliser to salvage draw for Arsenal as Man City hold on to beat London City
Alessia Russo scored a late equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw for Arsenal against Aston Villa as Renee Slegers' side failed to make their dominance count at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners had 27 shots in total at the Emirates but were left frustrated by a stoic defensive performance from Villa, who sat deep to preserve their lead after Chasity Grant scored with their only shot of the game in the 25th minute.
Villa defended valiantly, supported by eight saves from Akane Okuma, before Russo latched onto Stina Blackstenius' cross to head home the equaliser in the 85th minute.
Arsenal pushed for a late winner but ultimately left themselves with too much to do on an afternoon where their finishing left a lot to be desired.

Manchester City moved to the top of the WSL table after beating London City Lionesses 2-1 at Hayes Lane.
Mary Earps' brilliant double save kept the visitors out before the break, but Bunny Shaw rounded her to open the scoring with her ninth goal of the season soon after.
Jana Fernandez headed the hosts level from a set-piece, only for Lauren Hemp to restore City's lead just 122 seconds later, finishing from Mary Fowler's lovely delivery.
Shaw also hit the post, but two goals proved enough. A frustrating afternoon for London City, a valuable three points for City.
