Tour de France 2026: Tadej Pogacar wins record-equalling fifth title and third in a row after race completed in Paris
Slovenia's Tadej Pogacar earned a record-equalling fifth Tour de France title and third in a row after safely navigating the shortened final stage into Paris.
The 27-year-old avoided any late mishaps as he joined Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain as a five-time champion.
Pogacar had been level on four titles with Britain's Chris Froome (champion in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017) but is now in the exclusive club at the top after adding to his triumphs in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025.
Belgium's Remco Evenepoel finished second overall, with Mexico's Isaac del Toro third.
Pogacar, whose march to victory was aided by two-time winner Jonas Vingegaard withdrawing after a crash on Stage 15, won five stages this year.
Sunday's finale was cut in length from 133 to 89km due to security forces being redeployed to help tackle wildfires near Bordeaux.
Pogacar was a big factor in the final stage of this year's race, which was won by Netherland's Mathieu van der Poel, with the Slovenian and Van der Poel breaking away on the final ascent with around 10 kilometres remaining.

Pogacar eventually faded but Van der Poel went on to pip Jasper Philipsen in a photo finish on the Champs-Élysées, while Mads Pedersen completed the podium.
A quirk of this year's race was that no rider from France, Italy or Spain won a stage, making it the first Tour de France without a stage victory from any of the three nations which host the sports' Grand Tours.
France's Paul Seixas and compatriot Lenny Martinez finished fourth and fifth respectively in the general classification, behind Pogacar, Evenepoel and Del Toro.
