England issue new additional player behaviour guidelines after Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson nightclub incident

England have revealed new behavioural guidelines for their players.

The news comes after Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were suspended due to a nightclub incident.

Stokes and Atkinson had broken a midnight curfew installed by England after drinking episodes had plagued their winter tours. They went on to miss the heavy second Test defeat to New Zealand at The Kia Oval but returned for the decider after the ECB cleared them of any wrongdoing.

Captain Stokes subsequently dramatically retired from international cricket.

The guidelines, as first reported by The Telegraph, confirm there is a midnight curfew in place, that players cannot appear under the influence of alcohol in public and players must inform management if they are out of the hotel after 10pm.

The guidelines have been signed off by ECB managing director Rob Key.

A video of Stokes' farewell address to the England dressing room, during last month's third Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, has drawn the attention of the ICC, following a potential breach of filming regulations.

The Press Association has reported that the ECB has received official communication from the ICC regarding a video showing Stokes informing his team-mates of his decision to retire on the fourth morning of the series decider, which England went on to lose.

Reacting on social media to a report on the story, Stokes wrote: "Sack him …"

The former England captain appeared to make light of the fact that it would be difficult for cricket's authorities to sanction him now that he has retired from international cricket.
