Poland to host the only Patriot missile service centre outside the US
According to the official, the facility will become the "only one in the world outside the United States" dedicated to servicing PAC-3 missiles. It will handle munitions used by the Polish armed forces as well as those of other countries in the region.
Poland won the right to carry out the project in competition with three other countries: Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway. Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said Poland's bid received the highest rating during the evaluation.
"Four countries competed to host this investment in Europe: Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway. Poland's proposal received the highest rating at the application stage," the post reads.
The official did not disclose the exact location of the service center. It is also unclear what share of the work on the project will be carried out by Polish defense industry companies.
"From the very beginning, we maintained constant contact with the American side. This success was far from guaranteed. It is the result of many months of negotiations and the persistent efforts of the entire team," Sobkowiak-Czarnecka explained.
RMF24 reports that the current missile servicing process involves transporting them to the United States, carrying out the necessary work, and returning them to Europe. The entire cycle takes more than 12 months. Establishing a center in Poland is expected to reduce the time required to service PAC-3 missiles.
In September, Rubryka reported that Poland was ready to consider building a factory on its territory to manufacture missiles for Patriot systems if Ukraine received the relevant license from the United States. Poland's Ministry of National Defence said such production could be located in a secure area.
On September 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that his US counterpart, Donald Trump, had made a "final decision" on granting Kyiv licenses to manufacture Patriot missiles. Poland's deputy defense minister noted that the White House chief had made a similar statement earlier at the NATO summit in Ankara, but later expressed doubts about it.
It is also worth noting that the president had previously announced that Ukraine had reached an agreement on the delivery of a package of missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
