Republican Congressman Threatens Budget Cuts Over Any Attempts to Restrict Ukraine’s Use of Starshield
U.S. Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has pledged to seek an investigation into any attempts to restrict Ukraine’s use of Starshield, threatening budget cuts for the agencies responsible. He plans to discuss the issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team this week, according to a statement Fitzpatrick posted on X, UATV English reports.
“I will assure President Zelenskyy that any attempts to restrict Ukraine’s use of Starshield will be subject to a full investigation, and those responsible will be held fully accountable. This includes open congressional oversight hearings and immediate, severe budget cuts for any responsible agency or its leadership,” Fitzpatrick said.
He added that his discussions with Zelenskyy would cover Starshield, sanctions, and other issues related to Ukraine’s defense.
Fitzpatrick stressed that the U.S. Congress must reaffirm its commitment to supporting Ukraine and provide everything the country needs to defend itself against Russian aggression.
“Congress will unequivocally reaffirm that Ukraine is an indispensable ally of the United States, and that Russia has declared itself an enemy of the United States. The United States will 100% support and defend the people of Ukraine in their fight for their own freedom against this brutal, illegal, and unprovoked Russian invasion,” he wrote.
The congressman also called on Washington to end imports of Russian oil and strengthen sanctions against Russia.
“The United States must provide all the necessary defense equipment Ukraine needs to defend itself. The U.S. must not import a single drop of Russian oil. Sanctions against the Russian regime must be tougher and stronger than ever before. Each of these issues will be brought before the House of Representatives — and each will pass by an overwhelming majority,” Fitzpatrick said.
He added that, in his view, this approach would be consistent with the policies of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
“That is exactly what we will do now. Ukraine can and will defeat Russia,” the congressman concluded.
