Some of evacuated Donetsk region residents trying to return home, not allowed to bring children back – local authorities
Some of the previously evacuated residents of Donetsk region, including those having children, are trying to return to their households, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration Vadym Filashkin has said.
"We can see the dynamics of people returning home. I would like to recall that before the full-scale war the region had a population of 1.9 million people, and now – 480,000. […] And dome people are coming back to their households, mainly the private ones, because, as they explain, it is spring, something is growing there, and they have to do the housework. There are cases of people returning to their households," he said on the national telethon on Wednesday.
The local authorities hamper the return of children to the communities where mandatory evacuation of minors is being conducted.
"We do not allow people, whose houses are at the front line, to return there with children, because there were cases of bringing children back to their towns in the Torets community, Kurakhove community, where mandatory evacuation is being conducted. We forbade to return children there," the official said.
According to Filashkin, there are 3,144 children on the Lyman, Kostiantynivka, Selidove, Kurakhove communities, including 23 children in the Toretsk and Kurakhove communities, where mandatory evacuation has been announced.
The military administration officials, the White Angel police unit, and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine conduct the mandatory evacuation, sometimes with the help of Ukrainian soldiers.
Filashkin said there is a growth dynamic in evacuation, however some of the previously evacuated local residents have started to return home.
