Super League: Huddersfield Giants thrash Castleford Tigers in Accu Stadium swansong

Huddersfield signed off from the Accu Stadium with a morale-boosting 48-16 win over Castleford in the final game of the regular Betfred Super League season.

Taane Milne and Jacob Gagai both scored twice as the Giants cruised to victory, made all the more impressive by the first-half dismissal of Fenton Rogers for leading with the elbow.

But it meant more misery for the woeful visitors, who slipped below their opponents into 13th place after a dismal run of just one win in their last eight games.

Milne marked his final appearance for the Giants with the opening try, and although Liam Hood hit back for Castleford, three tries in 10 minutes from Tristan Powell, Connor Wrench and Gagai put Huddersfield firmly in control at 24-6 by half-time.

Even Rogers' dismissal just before the interval for his challenge on Tyler Dupree could not gift the under-par Tigers a route back into the contest.

They did raise a flicker of hope when Daejarn Asi jinked through a static Giants defence to score the first try after the restart, with Ben McNamara's second conversion edging them closer.

But a penalty from Tui Lolohea, who also kicked five conversions in his final game for the club, followed by further tries from Zac Woolford and Gagai's second, confirmed an impressive Giants victory.
