The Indiana Fever just made a no-brainer front office decision

The Indiana Fever have signed Australian forward Chloe Bibby to a rest-of-season contract, the team announced on Friday. Bibby, who was playing on a seven-day hardship contract with the Fever, averaged 9 points and shot 50% from three in two games.

The Fever won both games with Bibby in the lineup, a 93-78 win over the Chicago Sky followed by a 107-101 victory over the Phoenix Mercury.

Bibby is a 27-year-old undrafted rookie who has spent most of her professional basketball career overseas, playing in Poland, Spain, Australia, and other countries. Earlier this month, she helped lead Australia to a gold medal in the FIBA Women’s Asia World Cup.

Bibby, a 6’2 forward, is an elite shooter who shot 35.5% from three in five collegiate seasons (three at Mississippi State, two in Maryland). She can help space the floor for Indiana while playing significant frontcourt minutes.

Before joining the Fever, Bibby was temporarily on the Golden State Valkyries’ roster. She averaged 6.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in 5 regular-season games, shooting 40.7% from the field and 42.1% from three. She also earned praise from head coach Natalie Nakase, and was a strong on-court fit prior to being waived.

Bibby accompanied the Fever as they began a four-game road trip against the Wings; now, she’ll be with Indiana the rest of the way as they look to move up in the standings. The Fever currently owns the league’s sixth-best record, but have missed Caitlin Clark for more than half of the season. If Clark can return from her groin injury and find her offensive footing, Indiana has a real chance to make a run. Bibby could emerge as a major contributor in the latter portion of the season.
