UCL record: Lionel Messi overtake Cristiano Ronaldo

Lionel Messi opened his Champions League account for this season Wednesday night against Maccabi Haifa breaking several records in the process.   After Paris Saint-Germain fell behind in Israel, the Argentine came back to tie the game, and his team went on to win 3-1. The winning goal was scored by Neymar Junior after Messi assisted Kylian Mbappe‘s second goal. Messi now holds the record for most goals scored in a single season of the Champions League: 18 goals. He scored his first goal for Barcelona back in 2005 against Panathaniakos.
