Celebrities Attend Coach's New Collection Drop in NYC

Fashion and art insiders and entertainment figures reunited last night to celebrate Coach's new collection with late American pop artist Tom Wesselmann. The fashion house hosted an exclusive preview of the new collaboration in its SoHo boutique in New York City. Elegantly scattered around the locale were Coach's iconic jacquard bags emblazoned with Wesselmann's bright, sensuous works: a sequined red mouth, a bare leg stretched in front of an abstract ocean, a lipstick still life, and a pair of rouge lips smoking a cigarette. BAZAAR.com spoke exclusively with trans model Kai-Isaiah Jamal—one of the faces of the new campaign—about the vibrant, pleasure-driven collaboration. "We need something that takes us away from the mundane day to day," Jamal said. "We need something that feels out of the normal or wonderfully weird; these are the things that fuel us in uncertain times. Sometimes the best cure is to laugh or see a huge daffodil the size of a house and simply smile." After the collection reveal Tuesday, guests—along with Coach creative director Stuart Vevers and some of Wesselmann's living relatives—retired to Italian restaurant King to continue the festivities. Talk show sensation Ziwe arrived wearing a bright red sleeveless shirt with a shimmering pair of lips from the new drop. She paired the look with wide-leg jeans and chunky black boots. With her was comedian Hannah Einbinder, who stars in the HBO Max series Hacks. She wore a white-and-blue Oxford shirt from the collection with a screen-printed red outline of another pair of Wesselmann lips. Einbinder finished the look with an olive green wraparound midi skirt and black boots. TV industry favorites also arrived to support the brand. Generation star Chase Sui Wonders, paired the screen-printed button-up with a black leather skirt, black pointed-toe heels, and the lip-embellished Rogue 25 bag. And The High Note's Kelvin Harrison Jr. showed off a summer knit from the drop: a cream sweater vest with an abstract outline of a Wesselmann still life. He also carried Coach's lip-embellished jacquard cross-body. Coach darlings Parker Kit Hill and Wisdom Kaye—who have modeled for the brand—stood for photos with designer Vevers. Hill wore one of the collection's most coveted designs: a white denim miniskirt with a bright lipstick illustration, and a matching jean jacket. Kaye paired the same jacket with dusty-pink trousers. Art world figures—including visual artist Mickalene Thomas and gallerists Hannah Traore and Issa Traore—also made appearances.
