Kyiv recently requested ATACMS tactical shells from Washington. According to CNN, the Ukrainian army is ready to coordinate with the Pentagon every shot at enemy targets with the help of long-range missiles. Thus, the US Department of Defense will be able to promise strikes against the Russian Federation in order to prevent the escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and a direct confrontation between the States and the occupying country.
ATACMS missiles will enable HIMARS operators to ‘work’ on targets deep in the rear. This weapon allows you to hit ground objects within a radius of 300 km. It became known that Ukraine could receive ATACMS immediately after the transfer of the HIMARS military equipment. Until now, they have not been delivered. At the same time, the Pentagon does not rule out the possibility that this may happen in the future.
According to Western media, Washington is in no hurry to provide our country with ammunition because it does not want to be involved in a direct war with the Russian Federation. After the Kremlin’s partial annexation of four new regions of Ukraine, the red lines marked by official Moscow turned out to be blurred.
MGM-140 ATACMS are manufactured by Lockheed Martin. They are equipped with solid-state rocket engines. Projectiles are designed for point damage to command posts, air defense facilities, launchers, arsenals, communication nodes, etc. The ATACMS is guided to the target using GPS, which makes it possible to operate the ammunition in any weather and time of day.
