Latvia will extend temporary residence permits for russians only in exceptional cases

Latvia's ruling coalition has agreed on how to change the principles according to which temporary residence permits issued to russian citizens in Latvia are renewed. The Delfi portal reports this. In the future, residence permits will mostly not be extended, except in rare cases, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš said. He noted that the government would make specific decisions on this issue in the coming weeks. Karinsh noted that today russian citizens are not issued visas, except in exceptional cases, and practically no residence permits are issued. The president of Latvia, Egils Levits, previously called for a review of the regulation. According to senior state officials, russian citizens will no longer have renewable residence permits, excluding exceptional cases.
