Solutions to win: Ukrainian developers create robot capable of towing up to 10 tons of military equipment
UNEX UGV is a fully electric amphibious platform that operators can use to transport cargo, tow equipment, and execute other missions using interchangeable modules.
The complex can tow wheeled equipment weighing up to 10 tons, including artillery pieces. Operators can place ammunition directly on the platform to deliver it to positions alongside the gun.
The platform itself has a payload capacity of up to 1.7 tons on land and up to 1.25 tons on water. For container transport, developers created a separate module equipped with a self-loading mechanism capable of holding approximately 1 ton of cargo.
To load a container, the operator guides the robotic complex toward it. A specialized hook catches the box, and a hydraulic system pulls it onto the platform. Upon reaching its destination, the machine can drop the container at a designated point.
Ultra-low-pressure tires help the vehicle navigate difficult terrain by increasing the contact area with the surface. According to the manufacturer, the robot can:
For remote control, the developers integrated Starlink and radio communications. The software allows operators to link to an escort drone, enabling them to simultaneously view footage from the ground complex's cameras and monitor the drone's movement from above.
If communications drop, the UNEX UGV can automatically backtrack along its recorded path to points where the connection remained available.
The platform features a 78 kWh battery. The stated operating time is up to 3 hours, with a maximum range of 120 km and a top speed of 20 km/h. Actual performance metrics depend on payload weight and terrain.
Beyond logistical tasks, crews can equip the complex with demining and air defense systems. The modular design enables operators to adjust the platform configuration based on mission requirements.
Background
It should be noted that soldiers from one of the separate mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine completed a logistics mission for the first time using a Ukrainian-developed amphibious ground robotic complex.
