Russian forces attack Kyiv energy facilities, hitting high-rise building and leaving three dead and 22 injured

On the morning of October 14, Russian forces launched another massive ballistic missile strike against Kyiv and the Kyiv region, targeting energy infrastructure among other sites.

Following the strikes, power disruptions began across the capital while the ballistic threat remained active. Power vanished on the city's left bank after explosions resounded, while right-bank districts also recorded outages.

As of 7:23 a.m., DTEK reported emergency power shutdowns in the Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Pecherskyi, and Solomianskyi districts, as well as parts of the Holosiivskyi district.

"Stabilization schedules in these districts are temporarily inactive. Power engineers are already working to restore electricity to all homes as quickly as possible," the company stated.

Where casualties occurred in Kyiv

A high-rise building in the Desnianskyi district suffered the greatest destruction after a missile hit the structure.

A fire spanning 400 square meters broke out at the scene, and firefighters subsequently extinguished it.

During rubble clearance operations, rescuers discovered the bodies of two deceased residents.

Emergency crews rescued 16 residents from the building. Overall, in the Desnianskyi district, 21 people sustained injuries, including one child. The number of victims may rise as people continue seeking medical care. State Emergency Service psychologists provided support to 110 individuals.

Consequences of the attack in other city districts:

Overall figures released following the attack confirm that three people died and 22 sustained injuries in Kyiv.

The electric transport movement restricted in the capital

Due to the morning air threat, officials temporarily suspended Kyiv City Express train operations in both directions. The official channel of the city ring railway urged passengers to follow safety rules.

"We ask everyone to exercise caution during safety stops. Stay 200 meters away from railway infrastructure or inside shelters. We will resume ring movement after the air threat ends," the statement read.

Additionally, overnight attacks temporarily halted electric transport in Darnytskyi and Pecherskyi districts.

To transport passengers:

The Kyiv City State Administration urged citizens to follow operational updates on public transport on the "Zminy rukhu | Kyivpasstrans" Telegram channel.

BackgroundIt is worth noting that on the evening of October 13, Russian forces also attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles, triggering a series of explosions. The enemy targeted the capital's energy grid, damaging a building and causing casualties. Once again, Ukraine's partners provided no prior warning regarding missile launches.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that around 10:40 p.m., the enemy struck the Ukrainian capital with ballistic missiles, with exact numbers and types under clarification.

At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi confirmed that Ukraine again received no launch warnings from partners. According to the head of state, the enemy targeted energy infrastructure.

"The main target is energy, specifically CHPP-4. Unfortunately, hits occurred. A residential building also suffered damage, and rescuers are currently extinguishing the fire. Our air defense system detected these missiles as they were nearing Kyiv. CHPP-4 is one of Kyiv's primary energy facilities," he wrote.

The head of state also warned that, according to Ukrainian intelligence, Russian forces are preparing new ballistic launches.

As Rubryka reported, during the day on October 13, Russian forces continued attacking Kyiv with drones. In the Solomianskyi district, debris from a downed enemy UAV fell near Orliatko Park, damaging a cafe and injuring two women. In the Darnytskyi district, the attack set private residential houses ablaze, leaving one woman injured.
