United to win: Kurbas thermal imaging cameras may enter US production for American drones
Ukrainian developers plan to expand the deployment of Kurbas thermal imaging cameras by integrating them into American unmanned platforms. To achieve this, The Fourth Law and Odd Systems will collaborate with Performance Drone Works, which may become a manufacturing partner scaling the technology in the US.
The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the AUSA defense exhibition in Washington. Currently, the parties are evaluating the cameras' technical specifications and the requirements for their production in the US, with a specific focus on the Kurbas 640 model.
In the initial phase, the companies will assess the feasibility of integrating the cameras into American-made drones, evaluating their technical specifications and US manufacturing requirements. Following this phase, PDW may join the production and scaling of the technology on US soil.
The American company is currently developing its Drone Factory 01 facility, where it integrates partner technologies and manufactures critical components for its own platforms. Located in Huntsville, Alabama, the facility spans over 8,300 square meters.
At the same time, this cooperation represents a continuation of Ukraine's Project Foundation initiative, which provides for the localization and mass production of thermal imaging sensors in Europe and the US.
Background
Performance Drone Works develops multi-role aerial robotic systems, software, communication systems, payloads, and training equipment.
It should be noted that a new Ukrainian interceptor drone progressed from development to its first confirmed combat results in just one month. During testing, military crews shot down two Russian Geran-5 jet-powered drones heading toward Kyiv. Developers now aim to make the interceptor autonomous and expand its use to protect Ukrainian cities.
