German police detain two suspects following arson attack on Starlink station in Poland, providing communication services for Ukraine

A specialized Polish police task force investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident. Chief Commander of Police Marek Boroń stated during a press conference that law enforcement officers successfully established how the suspects prepared for the crime and fled the scene after setting the fire.

The Polish side currently awaits the transfer of the detained men. Boroń emphasized that the gathered evidence clearly indicates the deliberate nature of the actions.

It should be noted that in early April 2025, Ukraine received another 5,000 modern Starlink Enterprise terminals from Poland. In September, news emerged that Warsaw would continue paying the subscription fees for Starlink terminals in Ukraine. This decision was codified into law by the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.

Background

On September 24, news broke that the owner of a land plot in the village of Wola Krobowska, which houses Starlink infrastructure elements, called emergency services. He reported that antennas had caught fire and an electric power generator was damaged. Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze.

The Starlink ground base in Wola Krobowska, together with a similar facility near Kaunas in Lithuania, provides internet access across a significant portion of Central and Eastern Europe. According to initial findings by emergency services, unidentified individuals may have intentionally set fire to an electrical distribution panel. At the same time, authorities considered a short circuit in the power grid as a second possibility.

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the equipment at the station is currently operating properly, but emphasized that "we must recognize this as an element of hybrid warfare." According to him, while official confirmation that Russia bears direct responsibility for the fire remains pending, "many indications suggest this aligns with Russia's new attack doctrine."

A spokesperson for the National Prosecutor's Office of Poland stated that investigators have reasonable grounds to suspect the perpetrators "may have acted under instructions from Russian special services and in the interests of foreign intelligence against Poland."
