Drones attack Russia’s Omsk Oil Refinery 2,500 km from Ukrainian border
Vitaliy Khotsenko, governor of the Omsk region, stated that Ukrainian drones attacked the region on the afternoon of October 8. Before this, local authorities reported mobile internet restrictions and the closure of Omsk airport.
At the same time, Omsk residents reported a series of explosions near the oil refinery.
"There's smoke coming from the pipes there. Two explosions were heard," an eyewitness said.
Meanwhile, footage of a fire at the oil refinery appeared online.
Ukrainian company Fire Point stated that its drones attacked the refinery 2,500 km from the border. Upgraded FP-1 drones carried out the strike, hitting the target and causing a fire.
Background
The Omsk plant is Russia's most powerful oil refining enterprise, capable of processing over 21 million tons of crude oil annually. It features one of the highest refining depth indicators in the Russian Federation, at around 99%.
The facility plays a critical role in supplying the Russian occupying army. The plant produces aviation kerosene, diesel fuel, high-octane gasoline, lubricants, and petrochemical products.
Located roughly 2,500 km from the border with Ukraine, the Omsk Oil Refinery is the largest in Russia. Owned by Gazprom Neft, it can process up to 22 million tons of oil per year.
In early July, the Ukrainian military launched a drone attack on the oil refinery in Omsk, Russia. Hits recorded on the plant's territory caused a fire.
