Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Vyhivskyi reported that a total of 28 people died across Ukraine as a result of the massive strike by Russian occupying forces on October 7.
According to him, SES personnel and police officers rescued 29 people from under rubble, evacuated them from destroyed buildings, and secured them from fire. For the most part, these were people rescued in Pryluky.
Vyhivskyi also spoke about rescuer Pavlo Levchenko, who, together with colleagues, freed a five-year-old girl and her mother from under the rubble.
Debris clearance continues … we must ensure no more people remain underneath," the minister said.
Currently, search and rescue operations at the site of the destroyed building in Pryluky remain ongoing. SES workers continue to clear debris and dismantle destroyed structural elements.
Background
Russian troops launched a series of missile strikes on Pryluky in the Chernihiv region on the morning of October 7. One missile struck a five-story residential building. Debris clearance continues as people may still remain under the rubble; casualties include dead and wounded.
Occupiers attacked Pryluky with cruise missiles. As a result of the strike, two entrances of an apartment building collapsed. Other residential buildings, a youth creative center, an enterprise, and vehicles were also damaged.
More than 18,000 residents of Pryluky temporarily lost gas service following the night Russian attack, which damaged a medium-pressure gas pipeline.
In the evening, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi reported that the death toll in Pryluky from the Russian missile attack on October 7 had risen to 19, including five children.
In connection with the tragedy, the Pryluky urban territorial community declared October 7–9 as Days of Mourning.
