Russia strikes Palanca checkpoint on Moldova-Ukraine border, damaging bus and injuring border guard

According to the Border Police of Moldova, a shell fell near the Palanca checkpoint at 9:38 a.m. After hitting the ground, it ricocheted and struck a passenger bus parked near the barrier.

Preliminary information indicates that the strike damaged the bus and a control booth.

Additionally, a Moldovan border police officer suffered minor injuries. No other casualties were reported.

Following the incident, authorities suspended operations at the Palanca–Maiaky–Udobne checkpoint.

Moldova's Border Police, together with the Customs Service, are monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with relevant Ukrainian authorities.

Currently, traffic from the R-30 and R-31 road intersection (Ștefan Vodă district) toward Palanca remains temporarily blocked until the on-site investigation concludes.

Patrol officers are redirecting traffic to the Tudora border crossing, and drivers are advised to bypass the area entirely.

Authorities strongly urge citizens to refrain from traveling to the region. If residents hear drone noise or explosions near the border, officials advise them to remain calm, stay indoors, and receive information strictly from official sources.

At the same time, authorities urge people to keep away from aircraft debris, ammunition, or other suspicious objects and immediately call the 112 emergency service.

Background

It should be noted that on the night of September 13, a Russian attack in Volyn damaged a gas station near the Yahodyn checkpoint on the border with Poland.

Furthermore, on the night of September 9, Russian forces launched a drone strike on the Starokozache international road checkpoint on the Ukraine-Moldova border, leaving civilians dead and injured.

Russian occupation forces have repeatedly targeted border crossings along Ukraine's southwestern border. On the night of September 6, a Russian strike forced the Orlivka checkpoint on the Ukraine-Romania border to suspend operations temporarily.

On the night of September 1, Russian Shahed strike drones attacked the Orlivka international ferry checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Romanian border. That strike also brought operations to a halt after drones hit the checkpoint building and grounds, sparking fires.

Earlier, on the night of August 25, Russian strike UAVs attacked infrastructure at the Vynohradivka–Vulcănești checkpoint on the Ukraine-Moldova border. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted at the time that the attack marked the third Russian strike on border crossing points between Ukraine and Moldova within two weeks.
