United to win: Zelenskyi and Carney agree on over $2 bln in Patriot missiles, F-16 ammunition, and drone co-production for Ukraine

During the meeting, the president briefed Mark Carney on the peace negotiations and contacts with the US. Volodymyr Zelenskyi also described Russia's escalation, particularly its terror attacks using jet-powered Shahed drones against passenger trains, shopping centers, energy facilities, and ports.

The Ukrainian president and the Canadian prime minister agreed on the need to stop Russian strikes on grain supplies and energy infrastructure. At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyi said the situation on the front line does not support the Kremlin's claims that Russia holds a strong position.

The president thanked Canada for strengthening Ukraine's air defenses and for seeking additional Patriot interceptors worldwide.

The leaders also held detailed discussions on military cooperation under the Drone Deal. Following the talks, the two sides signed the first document paving the way for this cooperation.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the agreements totaled more than 2 billion US dollars. They comprise separate government and business packages.

"Thank you, Mark, for making this visit so productive. I am personally grateful to you and your team. Overall, today's agreements are substantial — worth more than 2 billion US dollars. The government package provides more than 1 billion US dollars for our defense, primarily to protect our skies: Patriot missiles, as I mentioned, ammunition for F-16s, and joint production between our countries — the very important joint production of drones. There is also a business package — agreements between our businesses, primarily in energy and on our joint initiatives," the president said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Mark Carney also discussed in detail the development of an anti-ballistic missile system.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi welcomed Canada's sanctions against Russia. Canada is currently preparing several sanctions packages against the aggressor country.

These include measures intended to make it harder for Russia to produce ballistic missiles.

During the meeting, Volodymyr Zelenskyi also thanked Canada for supporting Ukraine's energy sector ahead of winter. The two sides paid particular attention to humanitarian initiatives, including assistance for Ukrainian veterans.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Mark Carney separately discussed Ukraine's need for additional funding and ways to close a 27-billion-US-dollar shortfall.

The Canadian prime minister pledged that Canada would continue its comprehensive support for Ukraine.

"We have supported the energy system and will continue to do so. As colleagues and allies, we support Ukraine's path toward NATO and European Union membership and, most importantly, uphold fundamental values — Ukraine's territorial integrity and the principle that only Ukrainians themselves should determine Ukraine's future. Canada's support will continue, without question," the prime minister said.

Background

As Rubryka previously reported, Ukraine and Canada signed several bilateral documents on September 10, including a Declaration on a Centennial Partnership. The document provides for stronger economic, security, and political cooperation between the two countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi arrived in Canada for a three-day visit. The president will be in the country with First Lady Olena Zelenska from September 9 to September 11.
