Ukraine has agreement with the US for monthly Patriot missile deliveries
According to the Ukrainian president, the United States can provide Ukraine with the most significant assistance when it comes to air defense missiles.
At the same time, Zelenskyi stressed that the supplies are insufficient and that deliveries in 2026 are lower than in previous years. Ukraine is currently in talks with European countries about additional interceptor supplies, including Poland and Germany, which have the relevant missiles, as well as the Netherlands and Scandinavian countries.
"The second issue is Europe. The Germans have [interceptor missiles], the Poles have them. These are the countries that can provide serious assistance. With all due respect and gratitude to the German side — they have indeed helped, and Poland has helped — but we are asking who can provide [the missiles]. I am telling you frankly," Zelenskyi said.
Zelenskyi also noted that four years ago, he had asked then-US President Joe Biden for licenses to produce Patriot missiles in Ukraine. Had those licenses been granted at the time, he said, Ukraine could now be mass-producing interceptor missiles.
The president also suggested that Japan and South Korea could potentially help Ukraine with air defense.
"Have they helped us with air defense during the war? No. Under their domestic legislation, we have not received such assistance. Israel is also often mentioned. We would like to receive air defense systems from them as well. We would be ready to buy them, but this option is not currently available, although we are in dialogue," the president said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi also recalled the development of Ukraine's Freya anti-ballistic system, which is being developed by FirePoint and one undisclosed state-owned company. Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Italy are cooperating with Ukraine on its development, he added.
As Rubryka previously reported, Zelenskyi said that since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine has been receiving almost three times fewer anti-ballistic missiles than before. According to the president, this is partly linked to fighting in the Middle East. That is why, he said, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense must do everything possible to increase the supply of interceptor missiles. At the same time, Ukraine's defense industry, together with its partners, should work on developing a domestic air defense system.
Zelenskyi also said that political motives could be among the reasons for the reduced supply of anti-ballistic missiles, including an attempt to make Ukraine more willing to compromise.
