Solutions to win: Developer of Ukrainian guided aerial bomb unveils new strike version of Shpatel decoy drone

An upgraded communications system controls the drone and maintains a stable command channel over a considerable distance.

The company says the new control system allows operators to use the aircraft for various missions, including:

Separate units of Ukraine's Defense Forces have used the basic version of the Shpatel decoy drone since 2025. The UAV launches from a pneumatic catapult, can cover up to 420 kilometers, and carries about one kilogram of explosives for self-destruction.

According to the manufacturer, one decoy drone costs about 5,000 US dollars. The new "middle-strike" version of the Shpatel costs roughly the same.

Background

As Rubryka reported, in May, it became known that the first Ukrainian guided aerial bomb, developed with support from the Brave1 defense cluster, had passed the necessary tests and was ready for combat use.

In June, the first Ukrainian guided aerial bomb, Vyrivniuvach, was presented at the international Eurosatory 2026 arms exhibition in the French capital.

According to the published specifications, the Ukrainian guided aerial bomb can be launched from aircraft at altitudes ranging from 500 meters to more than 10,000 meters. The declared flight range of Vyrivniuvach is from 10 to more than 130 kilometers.

According to the data presented, the system has a 250-kilogram warhead. Developers worked on it for almost a year and a half, and the Brave1 defense technology cluster said they created the bomb from scratch.
