When news broke that Manolo Blahnik would team up with household brand Birkenstock on a collection of posh footwear, it sent the Internet into a frenzy. Pictures of the new offerings quickly made the rounds on Instagram. From a glance at the social media comments, one question was clearly on everyone's mind: How could they secure a pair of Manolo Birkenstocks for themselves before they inevitably sold out?
The first countdown to order came and went in March; now, a second opportunity to secure a pair has arrived. Manolo Blahnik's next Birkenstock collaboration is available online today through Manolo Blahnik, Birkenstock, and select retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue and Net-a-Porter—if you can click "add to cart" fast enough.
Inspired by both quality and function, this buzzy collection is once again the best of both brands. Birkenstock's classic designs are made modern with Manolo's opulence and embellishments, giving fans a style-driven option that won't require them to forgo comfort. That's a key concept Blahnik himself is particularly passionate about.
"[They] have been in my wardrobe since the very beginning of time," the famed designer said about the practical footwear brand in an initial press release. "I have loved and worn mine for many years. I am thrilled we have been able to collaborate, fusing the Manolo Blahnik aesthetic with the everyday comfort of Birkenstock is simply wonderful."
The designer's niece and CEO of the company, Kristina Blahnik, seconded his Birkenstock praise. "Timeless, high-quality designs, crafted to be treasured and enjoyed, is what we set out to create and I am delighted with the outcome. It is a privilege to cement our relationship further with Birkenstock through this collaboration, following the Spring/Summer 2020 Personality Campaign in which my uncle and I were featured."
As for the shoes themselves, shoppers can choose from a range of the classic slip-on sandals and mules we've come to expect from the brand—only this time with an elevated feel. The first time around, a swap from suede and silver hardware to plush velvet and crystal embellishments added a quality addition to everyday spring wardrobes. In the second summer drop, the emphasis turns to poolside glamour with PVC renditions of the Arizona sandal and polka dot fur updates to the Rodra sandal.
