The US Senate has supported a package bill on international assistance to Ukraine; House of Representatives will consider it next

On Tuesday, February 13, the US Senate supported a package bill on international aid to Ukraine for more than $60 billion.

The results became known during the vote of Senators.

The legislation on aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan in the Senate was supported by 70 senators: 48 Democrats and 22 Republicans. Against voted 28: 2 Democrats and 26 Republicans. Did not vote - 1 representative of the Republican Party.

It should be noted that 70 votes is a voting record at various stages of the bill's progress. The proceedings took a total of 6 and a half days, during which there were 10 votes. The last session lasted all night and ended with a successful vote at 6:38 a.m. Washington time.

The bill must now go to the House of Representatives. Speaker Johnson has already criticized the bill and made it clear he will not bring it to a vote.

As a reminder, this bill provides for a budget allocation of more than $95 billion, $60 billion of which is proposed to allocate to support Ukraine, and $14 billion to Israel; plus aid to Taiwan.

As recently as last year, U.S. President Joe Biden invited Congress to allocate more than $100 billion in aid to the three countries, as well as border protection.

Republicans refused to support the White House proposal, demanding a tougher migration policy. They agreed to consider aid only when tied to border protection.

Later they decided to consider aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan separately from the migration issue. Although the initiators were Democrats, some Republicans in the upper house of the U.S. Congress also supported the idea.

However, support for the bill in the Senate is not enough, it must pass the House of Representatives. The project is opposed by Republican Speaker Mike Johnson, who agrees to vote separately from the migration issue only aid to Israel. The Senate refused to even consider such an initiative.
