Nick Kyrgios has won his first ATP singles title in three years after completing an impressive run at the Citi Open in Washington.
The Australian, who was forced to play his final four singles matches in three days at the tournament due to bad weather, faced Yoshihito Nishioka in the final on Sunday afternoon (local time).
Nishioka had beaten top seed Andrey Rublev to book his place in the decider but he was broken on his first service game by a fired up Kyrgios.
The 27-year-old didn't look back from there as he held serve and wrapped up the first set 6-4 with an ace.

Kyrgios once again broke his Japanese opponent early in the second set with Nishioka struggling to deal with the Aussie's power.
The recent Wimbledon finalist has notably kept his cool for much of this tournament and did so again in the final aside from a brief disagreement with the umpire over the shot clock.
Kyrgios was able to move on from the moment quickly though as he broke a struggling Nishioka for a second time in the second set to wrap up the match and final 6-4 6-3.
The last time Kyrgios won an ATP final was at this same tournament in 2019 when he beat Daniil Medvedev.
Kyrgios fell to the ground after wrapping up the final against Nishioka and revealed how much the victory meant to him post-game.
"Just very emotional for me. To see where I was at last year to now, it’s just an incredible transformation," Kyrgios said.
"I’ve been in some really dark places and just to be able to turn it around. I think there are so many people that have helped me get there, but myself I’ve shown some serious strength to just continue and persevere through those times."

Kyrgios' title celebrations will be short lived though as he backs up in the men's doubles final with Jack Sock which will be played straight after his singles final.
The Aussie is looking to secure consecutive doubles titles after winning the Atlanta Open with Thanasi Kokkinakis last week.
While not rewarded with rankings points for his run to the Wimbledon final in July, Kyrgios' Citi Open triumph is set to see him rise into the ATP top 40 having entered the tournament as 63 in the world.
Kyrgios has now won seven ATP titles with a 7-4 winning record in finals.
Four of his titles have notably come in North America with the Aussie's sole title on home soil coming at the Brisbane International in 2018.
Prior to Wimbledon, Kyrgios hadn't reached an ATP final since August 2019 but has now played two in the space of a month with another title added to his trophy cabinet.
