Brewers outfielder Jonathan Davis exits game vs. Rays with injury after slamming into the wall on sensational catch

The MLB warning track exists for a reason, but sometimes players just have to throw caution to the wind. Such was the case for the Brewers' Jonathan Davis Wednesday. In a noon game against the Rays, a deep fly ball from Randy Arozarena in the second inning presented Davis with a choice: Make a business decision and play it off the wall? Or dive for it and risk slamming headlong into the wall in dead center? Davis chose the latter, stretching out, diving, and eventually falling into the wall in the process of making an utterly outstanding -- if highly dangerous -- play to get the first out of the inning. Added on a minor league deal following the 2021 season, Davis had his contract selected on June 18, the same day veteran centerfielder Lorenzo Cain was designated for assignment. Davis has split time with Tyrone Taylor in center since being called up. Although Davis stayed in the game immediately after the collision, he grabbed his back and looked to be in pain after the play. He was pulled from the game shortly after.
