Lindsay Sigmund, vice president of design at Andre Assous, first noticed the shoe's popularity picking up about two years ago. "The clog is so versatile, it's a comfortable footwear option for something as casual as walking the dog to a more dressed up, date night look," she says. "These days consumers are looking for multi-purpose footwear that can last them years—the clog is the perfect option for that."
Clogs are always about comfort first, but new details help to elevate them as an everyday shoe in the vein of ballet flats or simple sneakers. This season, colorful options by quirky designers like Eckhaus Latta and Marni contrast the more classic iterations with wooden soles, studs, and neutral leather uppers. Sigmund also calls out shearling as an of-the-moment detail her team is focusing on, an especially cozy choice for chilly weather.
As for styling, Sigmund suggests cropped jeans and a blazer for a daytime look, or a floaty midi dress for dressier events. "This is a great easy, transitional way to style the clog into a fall season," she says. For a trend-forward look that will still work for the office, try a pair of wide-leg trousers and a colorful sweater.
