PUMA Creative Director June Ambrose on 13 Things She'd Buy Again

Need some shopping inspiration? In Lucky 13, fashion tastemakers share the 13 items they love so much, they'd hit "Add to Cart" twice. Every question we ask costume designer and PUMA creative director June Ambrose comes back to fun. It's how she defines her personal style ("functional and fun"), how she engineers the perfect outfit ("I dress for my mood and love to always have fun playing with cuts, colors, and proportions"), and the lens through which she still views her fashion career, 25-odd years in (it's a "fun outlet, because you really get to create a character"). Her work has included styling music videos for Missy Elliott and Jay-Z (including the latter's looks for 2020's Black Is King), and leading PUMA's move into Women's Hoops sportswear. What day at the office, in fashion or anywhere else, sounds more fun than that? Ambrose's work is all about creativity, but her shopping habits have a practical side. "I'm a girl on the go, I always have a ton of things going on, so I need to be comfortable and be able to do what I need to do without worrying about my 'fit," Ambrose says. The energy of her home in New York City also seeps into her wardrobe. "There's inspiration everywhere you go, whether it's a magazine shop, museums, or people on the street," she explains. "That being said, I also draw from timeless style—things are always coming full circle." Distilling those influences into high-energy items, Ambrose curated her Lucky 13 list, which ranges from a pair of retro PUMA sneakers to Loewe balloon trousers. It's a lineup that takes fun seriously. Shop it below.
