Beyoncé Dedicates 'Renaissance' to Her Queer Fans in Rare Open Letter

Beyoncé is opening up to her fans ahead of the release of her highly anticipated seventh studio album, Renaissance. In a rare message published on her official website, Beyoncé revealed that her latest project is a labor of love made during the pandemic and dedicated to her family as well as her LGBTQ+ fanbase. "This three act project was recorded over three years during the pandemic, a time to be still, but also a time I found to be the most creative," wrote Beyoncé in the post. "Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving . My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgement, a place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration." Here is a special message from Beyoncé. #RENAISSANCEDedicated to her children, her husband, her family, her Godmother Uncle Johnny, and to the LGBTQ+ community and all of the pioneers who originated the culture and the fallen angels whose contributions have gone unrecognized. pic.twitter.com/hm6Om9fi52— BEYLEGION is COZY (@BeyLegion) The singer continued, giving a specific thank you to her children, her husband Jay Z, her Uncle Johnny, and her fanbase for helping inspire the new record. She also included never before seen images of herself with her three children as well as a throwback photo of her mother, Tina Knowles Lawson with her Uncle Johnny. "I want to give a special thank you to Rumi, Sir, and Blue for allowing me the space, creativity and inspiration and a special thanks to my beautiful husband and muse, who held me down during those late nights in the studio," she continued. "A big thank you to my Uncle Johnny. He was my godmother and the first person to expose me to a lot of the music and the culture that serve as inspiration for this album. Thank you to all of the pioneers who originate culture, to all of the fallen angels whose contributions have gone unrecognized for far too long. This is a celebration for you." Bey signed off with a loving note to fans, writing, "I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release your wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are."
