After a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the aggressor country Russia may also start a war against Georgia and Kazakhstan. At most, the so-called political elites of the Russian Federation are already hinting at expanding the scale of aggression and dreaming of the “restoration” of the USSR.
Experts note that such a scenario of events must be taken seriously. This is stated in the material of the German publication Die Welt.
According to the historian Carl Schlegel, the statements of such Russian officials as Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmytro Medvedev should be taken seriously, who is discussing the “restoration” of the Soviet Union on social media. The expert recalled that in his 2021 essay, Medvedev denied the sovereignty of Ukraine, and now declares that Kazakhstan is an “artificial state, and only Russia can restore order there.”
Analyst Olena Kostyukovich also does not deny that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may soon attack Georgia again. According to her, Russian propaganda deliberately never talks about the specific limits of the “Russian peace”, thereby leaving a bridgehead for possible future Russian aggression.
“No one knows whether Putin will attack Georgia in the near future. But I am sure that he wants Georgia. No one should be sure that Putin is not going to make further claims,” the expert says.
Based on Putin’s speeches and performances, the analyst suggested that his fascination with history goes far beyond the Soviet Union. The sick imagination of the dictator of the Russian Federation was influenced by pseudo-scientific authors who talk about the “thousand-year-old Russian Empire”.
“Putin now wants to make amends not only for the shame of the end of the Cold War, but also for the mentioned centuries-old humiliation from the West,” Die Welt said.
It is noteworthy that, aware of the risk emanating from Russia, the neighboring states do not adapt to the Kremlin’s propaganda. Thus, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, gained new authority by declaring his country’s independence from Moscow. In addition, Kazakhstan announced in advance that it would not send troops to Ukraine.
“In June, in the presence of Vladimir Putin, Tokayev called the so-called Luhansk and Donetsk “people’s republics” “quasi-states” that he does not recognize. A Russian TV presenter then called Kazakhstan “ungrateful” and recommended that the country take a closer look at what is happening in Ukraine”, – writes the publication.
Also, a threat to Kazakhstan and Georgia can be carried by Russian emigrants, who, after the start of an active war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, have significantly increased in these countries. In particular, in Georgia, the government is very loyal to Moscow, and more than 110,000 Russians moved after the start of the large-scale war against Ukraine, which is 3% of the entire population. Accordingly, as the Georgian opposition believes, this is a very strong basis for the attack and annexation of all countries. However, the official authorities of Georgia consider such statements to be xenophobia against Russians.
