TikTok, despite the official ban, promotes Russian content

On the Chinese social platform TikTok, despite the official exit from Russia and the ban on Russian users to publish content, such videos still appear. This is evidenced by the research of the non-profit organization “Tracking Exposed”. According to TikTok’s policy, which was last updated on June 30, Russian and international content is not available for users in Russia. However, experts have found that resources, including Russian state-controlled media, push political and non-political content through an algorithmically recommended For You Page (FYP), even if the content does not appear on the profiles of the users who published it. The so-called shadow advance is a new term coined by experts to describe something that has not been observed before. “This is unfortunate in light of the transparency standards that will soon apply to all major technology platforms in Europe under the Digital Services Act,” – Tracking Exposed said. When analyzing the TikTok feed, researchers found verified Russian accounts that had uploaded new content at the time the company’s report was published, despite the ban. These new videos were available to Russian and foreign users. Please donate for our edition and Ukrainian people. How to Donate?
