Drone enters Moldova and explodes near village during Russian attack on Ukraine
NewsMaker reported that a local resident alerted police to the drone after spotting the aircraft outside the settlement.
Shortly afterward, the drone exploded.
The Moldovan Defense Ministry has not yet specified who owned the drone. The ministry said experts are examining the debris to determine its origin. At the same time, it recalled that Russia attacked Ukraine that night using drones and missiles.
Moldova's Foreign Ministry, for its part, issued a statement in which it "strongly condemned" the incident involving an "unknown aircraft." The ministry stressed that the case "once again highlights the risks and consequences that Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine poses to regional security and neighboring states."
The Foreign Ministry also said the drone crash was an incident that threatened the country's national security and, at the same time, violated its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The statement separately emphasized that "in the face of these challenges," Moldova will continue strengthening its defense capabilities and increasing the resilience of the state.
It should be noted that on May 13, during a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, a Russian drone also crossed the state border of the Republic of Moldova, after which its movement was recorded in several districts of the country.
BackgroundAs reported, overnight on June 8, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian regions with a total of 155 Shahed-type strike UAVs and decoy drones.
