Drone attack sets largest tank farm at Sheskharis complex ablaze in Novorossiysk, Russia

Data from NASA FIRMS, a service that uses satellite monitoring to show fire hotspots around the world, also indicates a blaze.

The service's map recorded a fire in the Grushova Balka tract. This is where the "Grushovaya" industrial site is located — the largest tank farm of the "Sheskharis" transshipment complex.

In addition, residents of Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar Territory reported a large number of attacks overnight on June 8. In particular, they counted at least 50 explosions in the city, and a fire broke out.

The Russian Telegram channel Astra also confirmed the location of the fire. According to its data, videos shared online show a blaze on the territory of "Grushovaya."

Background"Grushovaya" is the largest oil storage facility in the Caucasus and is part of the "Sheskharis" transshipment complex, operated by Chernomortransneft JSC, which is part of the Transneft structure.

The "Sheskharis" complex is the largest oil-loading terminal in southern Russia. It receives, stores, and transfers oil onto tankers for further export. The facility also supplies fuel to Russian military groupings involved in the war against Ukraine.

The "Grushovaya" tank farm is connected to the "Sheskharis" marine terminal by a system of pipelines and tunnels. These routes transport oil to the berths, where it is loaded onto tankers.

Ukrainian drones have targeted this facility several times before. In particular, overnight on April 9, Russia's Krasnodar Territory came under a large-scale drone attack. The most intense explosions were recorded near Krymsk, where a military airfield is located.

It was also reported that overnight on June 6, drones attacked the Poltavskaya oil depot in the city of Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar Territory, in the Russian Federation. The strike caused a massive fire at the facility, which Russian services estimated at about 5,000 square meters.
