Focus: Russia Starts Talking About 'Dramatic' State of Army1712.08.2022, 13:51 18,304 A Russian Defense Ministry adviser has admitted that Ukraine's army is much more experienced than Russia's.A Russian Defence Ministry adviser has admitted that the occupation troops lack soldiers and good modern weapons, while the Ukrainian army has more and more such weapons.Russia's army involved in the war against Ukraine may find itself in a "very dramatic situation by the end of the summer". One of the advisers to the Russian Defence Ministry said this.As zn.ua reported, citing the Focus publication, he admitted that the conditions in which Russian soldiers are being held are very deplorable, as is the state of their arms. The man in question is Ruslan Pukhov, who is a member of the advisory council of the Russian Defence Ministry. He is close to Vladimir Putin's government and heads the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies."We have too few infantrymen. The front line is very big. And the troops sent there are not enough," he admitted. He also noted that the Ukrainian defence has a lot of artillery and ground forces."We have to break through the Ukrainian front line with too few soldiers, vulnerable tanks and armoured vehicles," Pukhov said, adding that the Russian army is trying to compensate by massive use of artillery. But progress is too slow. The adviser to the Russian Defence Ministry pointed to the Russian army's very poor technical support. It has no latest generation planes. In addition, Russian troops do not have enough high-precision weapons. And this, according to Pukhov, also "reduces the effectiveness of our outdated fighters." He believes this is one of the main reasons why the Russian air force has failed to conquer the Ukrainian sky. Meanwhile, on the ground, Russia's army uses outdated tanks.Putin's army does not have the latest tanks at all. On top of that, those that are available are equipped with outdated equipment and armour. For example, Israel uses the latest technology to protect its tanks. The US is installing advanced technologies on combat vehicles too, but "we haven't done it"."It's like a gladiatorial battle. One fights with a sword and a shield and the other fights with pitchforks and a net," the Russian defence ministry adviser said, adding that Russian forces have poor weapons for both attacks and defence."We launched hundreds, thousands even of unguided shells. And they flew off somewhere. They're cheap, but they rarely hit the target. Two high-precision projectiles can do much more damage to an enemy," he added. He also admitted that the Ukrainian army is simply more experienced than the Russian army."They have been fighting for eight years, their artillerymen are very experienced. We, on our part, have rarely used artillery on the battlefield," Pukhov said, adding that the Ukrainian side is also better trained and better at aerial reconnaissance. The Russian Defence Ministry adviser reminded that the USA had handed over US HIMARS long-range artillery systems to Ukraine. Previously, both sides used Soviet howitzers and MLRS with a range of 13-25 kilometres. But the modern Western artillery received by Ukraine destroys targets at a range of 40 kilometres. The HIMARS, on the other hand, are capable of delivering precise strikes at distances as far as 85 kilometres. And this, according to Pukhov, is a serious problem for the Russian army. Because Ukrainian defenders use the US systems to destroy Russian ammunition depots, command centres, and Russian supply routes from long distances.Pukhov has no doubt that the West will continue to supply Ukraine with weapons. In turn, the Ukrainian military will be quick to master new types of weapons."By the end of the summer, the situation could become very dramatic for us. We are mobilizing too few soldiers. And we have to fight with the army, which is already conducting the fourth wave of mobilization. They have enough fighters," he said.Ukraine still has not launched a massive counter-offensive. The Russian Defence Ministry adviser has no doubt it is capable of doing so. However, he noted that "underestimating the enemy was an expensive mistake for us". And if the Ukrainian military decides that the Russian forces are very weak, they will face the same problems during a major offensive.
