Cutting Southern Region Off the Grid: Enerhoatom Explained Cynical Purpose of Zaporizhzhia NPP Shelling by Russian Troops

Russian troops are shelling ZNPP in order to destroy its infrastructure and cut the southern region of the country off Ukrainian power grid. Enerhoatom’s Press Office claims that the Russian invaders will most likely continue artillery attacks targeting Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. “The goal of nuclear terrorist attacks against Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is to destroy the plant’s infrastructure and damage the power transmission lines used for electric energy output to the energy system of Ukraine, thus cutting the southern regions of the country off the grid. This means that the Russian invaders are now using a new scenario – a scenario of deliberate destruction and artificial nuclear radiational disaster at ZNPP. This is the reason why artillery attacks against the plant will most likely continue”, Enerhoatom’s statement released on August 6th, reads. According to the statement, Rosatom employees currently stationed at the Russia-controlled NPP assist the invaders in achieving their goal of cutting the plant off Ukrainian energy system. "Unless appropriate actions are taken right now, Russia will succeed in its heinous plan of turning ZNPP into a nuclear terrorist base. Rosatom employees currently stationed at the plant actively assist the invaders and coordinate a special program on cutting ZNPP off Ukrainian energy system through deliberate artillery attacks targeting all power lines connecting ZNPP to Ukrainian grid. In addition to infrastructural damage, this plan also includes subsequent total plant blackout and starting of diesel generators at all power generation units in order to ensure cooling of nuclear fuel contained in the nuclear reactors and spent fuel pits", the company representatives added. According to Enerhoatom, the situation is further dramatized by Russian military vehicles and ammunitions stored at the turbine islands of power generation units №1 and №2. The invaders have basically rigged with explosives the power generation units with two nuclear reactors at the Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. "Soon, these circumstances may likely lead to nuclear and radiational disaster affecting not only Ukraine, but also entire Europe”, Enerhoatom warned. Read also:
