Deputy Commander Of Russia’s Southern Military District Arrested330.07.2022, 8:10 10,424 The lieutenant general is accused of embezzlement.Viktor Voronov, the deputy commander for logistics of the troops of the Southern Military District of Russia, was arrested and sent to a pre-trial detention center.This is reported by ghall.com.ua with a reference to RIA Novosti.Voronov is accused of spending about 2 million rubles ($31,000) from the Ministry of Defense on organizing a land plot and a house.On August 1, a Russian court will consider a complaint against the decision of the garrison military court of Rostov-on-Don on the choice of restraint in the form of detention for the general.In July, Lieutenant-General Sergei Umnov, former head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of St. Petersburg and assistant to Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, was arrested in a case of authority abuse that led to grave consequences. The court also arrested Ivan Abakumov, a retired major general and former deputy chief of the Russian police department for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. All three from 2016 to 2020 “strongly recommended” St. Petersburg businessmen to donate funds to the “Fund for Assistance to the Programs of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.” At the same time, with the proceeds, the generals bought property for personal use.Earlier, Russian journalists found out who, against the backdrop of heavy losses in Ukraine, heads the Russian army. One of the generals turned out to be the owner of an apartment in Moscow worth $2 million. Another was convicted several times in the 90s, including for theft in the army.
