Bodies Are Piled in Several Layers: Russains Have Buried at Least 16 Thousand Killed Mariupol Residents in Mass-Casualty Graves

Since the late April, the Russian invaders have buried at least 16 thousand bodies of killed Mariupol residents in mass-casualty graves dug in the vicinity of Staryi Krym, Mangush and Vynohradne villages. At least 25 newly dug trench-like sectors have been observed at the Staryi Krym village cemetery. The Russian invaders reportedly pile the casualty bodies in the several layers, backfill the trenches and put the fake improvised gravestones to “disguise” these mass burial sites as individual graves. According to the Mariupol City Councils, the approximate number of civilians killed by the Russian troops may be significantly underestimated. Based on available data, around 5 thousand more casualties had been buried by the local municipal services in the early March, while thousands of bodies are still trapped under the wreckage, stored at the field morgues or buried at the improvised graveyards. “The estimated death toll of Mariupol civilians is around 22 thousand. However, we are receiving more and more evidences indicating that the actual consequences of the Russian war crimes may be much worse. These facts as well as the terrible standing of the local population under the Russian rule require the special attention by our society”, Vadym Boichenko, the Mayor of Mariupol, emphasized.
