Smell of Death and Burning Prevails Throughout the Place: Mariupol City Council Disclosed Shocking Death Toll of Russian Invasion

After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, at least 22 thousand Ukrainians have been killed by the enemy troops in Mariupol. “After three months of Russian attacks, Mariupol is now a city of ghosts”, Petro Andriushchenko, the Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol, says when speaking to CNN. According to him, the Mariupol City Council believes that at least 22,000 residents of the city have been killed during three months of war, but the actual death toll can be much higher. " It is absolutely dark inside the city. The only lights are from Russian troops and Russian patrols. The smell of death and burning prevails throughout the place", Andriushchenko says when asked to describe the current situation in Mariupol. Meanwhile, the independent mass media almost have no access to the Russia-controlled city, while the local residents are too scared to speak out honestly. The official also confirms the multiple issues with re-burial of deceased. The re-burial process is complicated by the fact that the Russian military authorities require all dead bodies to be first delivered to the morgue. Moreover, those who wish to bury their dead must first record a video message claiming that the deceased was allegedly murdered by Ukrainian troops. Andriushchenko emphasizes that Mariupol is facing acritical humanitarian disaster and significant communication problems. According to him, the invaders restrict the freedom of movement for local residents, who cannot escape the city because of filtration system. Read also:
