City of Martyrs: chronology of battles in Mariupol and Azovstal

The city of martyrs – that’s what Mariupol called the Pope. It has remained the hottest spot since Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. The Russian occupiers blocked Mariupol in early March. During this time, they almost razed it to the ground, destroying about 95-98% of all buildings. During the siege of the city at the hands of the Russian occupiers killed more than 20 thousand people. This is twice as much as in the two years of occupation during World War II. More than 40,000 people were forcibly deported to Russia or the so-called DNR.
