The Best Concealers for Mature Skin, According to Makeup Artists

No matter your age, concealer is a great buy for brightening under eyes, covering blemishes, and more. However, those with mature skin might want to look for certain qualities or ingredients that will help address things like wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, and more things that come with life.

"Because mature skin is often dry with surfaced texture, I look for concealers that have moisturizing ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid, as well as a natural finish," says Robin Black, a Los Angeles-based makeup artist. Black adds that she finds that radiant and luminous, or soft and natural matte finishes, work best on mature skin. She also prefers formulas that can be layered to build up coverage just where it's needed, without looking cakey.

When picking a shade of concealer, you shouldn't expect sai shade to be the same all year round. "Where people run into difficulty is in blending and shade-matching, especially relying on one shade year-round," New York City-based makeup artist Tommy Napoli previously told Allure. "We know this is trouble because we are not the same shade in summer as we are in winter." If your go-to concealer isn't a great match, consider what time of year you purchased it and then invest in a new shade to fit your current skin tone.

Now, it's time to go shopping. Below are seven of the best concealers for mature skin, according to makeup artists.

According to New York City-based makeup artist Sara Talias, mature skin types want a hydrating, yet full-coverage concealer. Armani Beauty's Luminous Silk Concealer (23 shades) is one of her favorites for getting the job done. This past Beauty of Beauty winner is lightweight but pigmented and includes some of our favorite skin-care ingredients, like vitamin E and caffeine to hydrate and brighten the under eyes.

"Monika Blunder's Beauty Blunder Cover All in One Foundation (20 shades) is a super moisturizing formula that can be used as a sheer foundation or layered to create a medium coverage concealer," says Black. Ideal for more mature skin, it blends and melts into the skin with ease and is a great, one-and-done solution for polished, natural-looking skin.

As mentioned, hydration is key when looking for concealers for mature skin. The Neutrogena Hydra Boost Hydrating Concealer (five shades) and E.L.F. Hydrating Camo Concealer (25 shades) are two drugstore finds that won't break the bank and will ensure the under eyes are hydrated, thanks to the hyaluronic acid in both formulas.

"Sisley Paris's Phyto-Cernes Éclat Eye Concealer (nine shades) diffuses and brightens the under eyes with a very natural, non-creasing finish," says Black. Plus, the formula is infused with skin-care ingredients like red vine extract, caffeine, and carrot that help minimize puffiness, dark circles, and smooth any fine lines.

Talias also loves the ever-classic Maybelline New York's Instant Age Rewind Concealer (18 shades). "It really brightens under the eyes and is super lightweight too," she says. Not to mention, the sponge tip applicator makes it foolproof to apply and blend into the skin.

The fuzzy, doe-foot applicator in the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer (22 shades) moves flexibly from left to right and is incredibly satisfying to use. As for the formula, a blend of silk powder and silica smooths and creates a blurring effect on the skin.

Black is a fan of both these Tom Ford and Dior splurges. "Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate Concealer (20 shades) has a buildable formula for extra coverage but also has a glowing, natural finish that works wonders on mature skin," says Black. If a dewy finish isn't your thing, she recommends the Dior Forever Skin Correct Full-Coverage Concealer (30 shades), a full-coverage, long-wear formula with hydrating hyaluronic acid and a soft matte finish.
