All of Taraji P. Henson's Beauty Looks From the 2022 BET Awards

We at Allure are big fans of celebrities who genuinely love the process of doing hair, makeup, and nails — and Taraji P. Henson fits that bill. Not only does the actor and BET Awards host have her own haircare line, she also became quite good at nail art during COVID lockdowns. So it's no surprise that Henson goes all out for red carpets, especially during the July 26 red carpet. Her multiple quick changes mean we get to gaze upon many different looks, a fact that we'll happily take. Each one was different, but there was a pleasantly surprising consistency: multiple outfits showed off Henson's hip tattoos. And we love to see it. Henson worked with hairstylist Tym Wallace and makeup artist Saisha Beecham for the evening, and the team gave us no shortage of breathtaking beauty moments. You have to go big for the first appearance, and Henson's glam squad sure did deliver. We've seen some long ponytails in our time, but this one might be a record, as it appears to hit around knee-length. Fun fact: it was actually 45 inches long. Paired with a power red lipstick and bronze nails, Henson sure knows that this is how you start a party. According to Wallace, the extensions come courtesy of Hair So Fab. "Taraji's red carpet look is inspired by timeless beauty with a little bit of Rihanna," Wallace tells Allure. "She wanted to feel sexy, so I created a sleek, side swept low ponytail." Wallace prepped the hair with Carol's Daughter Goddess Strength Divine Strength Leave in Milk and then applied the Red by Kiss Edge Fixer Hair Wax Stick in Coconut. He brushed Henson's hair into "the smoothest pony of life," using Tangle Teezer’s The Ultimate Styler. It was hot on the red carpet, so Wallace ended things by smoothing it out with Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Edge Control Smoother. File this under, how to make an entrance: after Lizzo opened the show with a gilded performance of "About Damn Time," Henson strutted on stage wearing a matching gold dress. After the extra-long ponytail, Wallace switched it up drastically and put Henson in a French bob with eyebrow-grazing fringe. It perfectly showed off her eye gems, which were placed on the lid and below the lash line. "I was inspired by Egyptian Queens Cleopatra and Nefertiti," Wallace says. "To create the perfect bob, I applied the hair using the silicone tip of the KISS All Mighty Bond Dual Tip Applicator adhesive." He then flat ironed the hair using Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repair and Protect Multi Styling Milk as a heat protectant, and Red by KISS Edge Fixer Hair Wax Stick to keep it all in place. A vintage Versace look on Naomi Campbell inspired Wallace to create this super sleek hair. To switch Henson's looks quickly without hurting her hair, Wallace used KISS All Mighty Bond Remover. He then applied Red by Kiss Tinted Lace Wig Powder to the inside of the wig around the part. As we mentioned before, two slits in Henson's gown exposed her hip tattoos. At leas that's how Wallace describes this "bone straight" look, which came via a Kim Kimble Hair wig. He began by working a dime-sized amount of Carol’s Daughter Goddess Strength Leave In Cream through the hair before flat ironing. The style was kept sleek using Red by KISS Edge Fixer Hair Wax Stick. Wallace then slicked Henson's baby hair in place using Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Edge Control Smoother. Wallace says that this look is a nod to Henson's character from The Color Purple, a blues singer named Shug Avery. She wore it while handing out her TPH products during a bit in between performances. To bring out the curls and control flyaways, he used Wash Day Hair Gel Foam Styler in Aloe. Wallace then put Henson in a blonde lob, because why not try out as many hair colors as possible in a night? The hair paired perfectly with her extra-long nails, which were truly a feat of quick change magic.
