08-05-2008 18:06 NATO Parliamentary Assembly published information about results of meeting of Ukraine - NATO interparliamentary cooperation council
The council took place at the Alliance headquarters on May 5.
According to the information, MPs from Ukraine and NATO member-countries expressed support for the Bucharest summit decisions and called as history-making the coordinated agreement reached at the top level to invite Ukraine to the Membership Action Plan implementation in the future. The council members welcomed the new quality of dialogue between Ukraine and the Alliance and fully backed the open-door policy once again confirmed at Bucharest by the heads of states and governments of NATO member-countries. They also pointed out that, for the first time ever, Ukraine can independently, without other parties' interference, pass decisions on entering political unions or unions that guarantee its security.
