For Euro-2012 China proposes to build in Ukraine “East-West” highway

Euro 2012 - death or glory?

As most people know, Poland and Ukraine were selected to host the European Championship football tournament in 2012. Ever since the announcement, the question on everyone’s lips has been “Will they be ready for it?”. As I live in Warsaw, I’ll worry more about the Polish side of things although one general point is that however far behind Poland might be, in Ukraine it is slightly worse.

For me this is very exciting as I both enjoy football and love Poland so the idea of improving the place and then getting to watch some good football at the end of it is just great. I am however very concerned that the lack of organisational ability here when the government or large institution...

Middle class hotels to be built in Poland

Poland lacks two- and three-star hotels with moderate prices, but preparations for EURO 2012 will contribute to development of this market segment – in the assessment of hotel sector experts.

- Poland lacks hotels with reasonable prices. We need first of all good two- and three-star hotels – said on Monday Józef Ratajski, the deputy chairman of the Polish Chamber of Tourism (PIT). This opinion is shared by Andrzej Saja of Chamber of Commerce of Polish Hotel Industry (IGHP).

According to the ministry of economy, the biggest benefits from hosting of EURO 2012 will be derived by undertakings in construction and tourism sectors – both the contractors and suppliers of building materials.

Experts stress that investments in the construction of hotels should also take into account the situation of the tourism market after 2012.

Euro 2012 hosts get Uefa warning

Poland and Ukraine have been warned by governing body Uefa to speed up their preparations for Euro 2012.

There have been concerns that political change in both countries has affected projects such as stadiums and roads.

“The next four to six months will be crucial to avoid any critical slippage in infrastructure projects,” said Uefa president Michel Platini.

Uefa general secretary David Taylor added: “There has been progress, but it needs to be accelerated.”

Platini made the statement after a two-day meeting of Uefa’s executive committee in Zagreb which reviewed a report on the progress the two countries have made.

Poland and Ukraine, who were awarded the competition in April last year, have admitted that preparations had fallen behind because of political instability in both countries.

EURO 2012 in Ukraine: to catch up on.

The Ukrainian Minister of Sport, Jurij Pawłenko, claims that in 2008 his country will catch up on the preparation to the EURO 2012. We lost a lot of time; honestly, it was 9 months - said Pawłenko on Saturday during the press conference in Kiev.

Euro 2012 - the questionable building will be liquidated.

“Trojickyj” shopping centre that is build in the neighbourhood of the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, will have been liquidated by 1 June - an agreement there upon was signed by both, representatives of the Ukrainian government and the owners of the “Trojickyj” shopping centre.

According to the document, till 10 February, the Kiev authorities and the owners of the shopping centre will appoint a working group which decide about the compensation credit for the liquidated building.

UEFA repeatedly called down the Ukrainian authorities that the stadium in Kiev, as the arena for EURO 2012, does not fulfill the security standard. In case of a vacation during EURO 2012 football matches, the shopping centre would hinder such an emergency action.

The project of the National Stadium has been presented

JSK Architekci company has shown a visualization and a miniature of the National Stadium. Its elevation refers to the national colours and imitates the waving Polish flag. It is so-called conceptional project.

Zbigniew Pszczulny from JSK Architekci assured that the building fulfills all the UEFArequirements. The new stadium will be located at the existing embankment (strenghtened by stairs) of the 10th-Anniversary Stadium. The pitch will be located about nine meters higher than the existing one. Parkings for about 1700 cars will be build below the pitch and the access will be enabled by special tunnels.

EURO 2012 - more action, less declaration.

Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk declared a donation from the national budget - the one-third of the whole building cost - for those cities that organize football Euro Championship. Confederation of Polish Employers claims that it is a good step in a good direction.

The present-day press conference of the Prime Minister showed that all the preparation to the EURO 2012 are conducted on schedule. However, UEFA has recently criticized our previous achievements and rebuked an organizational chaos with too much politics’ influence on championship’s preparation - claim CPE representatives.

On many occasions, Confederation Polish Employers showed the borders that had hindered proper arrangements of EURO 2012 and presented posibilities of their solution....
